Gozo Custom Apparel.  Hmmm...what an odd name.  You are probably wondering what is up with a name like Gozo.  What the heck is a Gozo.  There will be visitors here who know Gozo. Now you are a bit intrigued thinking "How do others know Gozo and I don't?"

Here is the story behind Gozo Custom Apparel.

My grandfather went to sea in the Mediterranean at the age of 9 working on my great grandfather's ship.  He was a natural at picking up the different languages around the Mediterranean and soon became the ship's linguist.  Years later he left the Mediterranean for the Atlantic.  A portion of this time was making trips back and forth between the U.S. and Europe during WWI.  On one occasion the German Navy happened upon his ship and fortunately, for those of us to come after, gave the sailors of the merchant vessel time to vacate before sinking it.  To think of what may be (or more accurately "not be") had they not been given time by the Germans.  But I digress.

My grandfather was intent all along to come to America.  The captain of a ship he was working on at the time was losing too many men to the U.S. if he docked so he decided to anchor a mile offshore and transport cargo by barge.  My grandfather didn't let this slow him down one bit.  Since he had grown up at sea he could swim like a fish and swim 5 times the distance of his ship's current location from shore.  So over the side he went swimming into New York harbor.

My grandfather was born on one of the Maltese islands named Gozo.  In honor of his literal leap of faith Gozo Custom Apparel was formed.
